B.O.S.S. FAQs

1. What is the Bulldog On-Line Student System (BOSS) and who can use it?

BOSS is a TECH-modified, commercial web-based tool that interfaces with TECH’s SCT-IA Plus 2000 Student Information System, enabling authorized TECH students to view their student records, register, drop/add, and complete fee payment over the Internet. There are certain functions within BOSS that are available to the entire public (e.g. Course Catalog, Course Descriptions, Available Course Sections, Critical Registration Dates, and numerous forms and links). Access to personal record information, and online fee payment is restricted to those students fully admitted to Louisiana Tech University. Web Registration and Drop/Add operations (when active) are not available for use by Transient graduate students, Visiting undergraduate students, ICP students, nor High School early or concurrent admission students.

Students with valid BOSS PINs can access BOSS from any computer that has Internet access and a recognized browser (see question #3 below for browser information).

4. What is a BOSS PIN and how do I get one?

Your BOSS PIN is the Personal Identification Number assigned to you in the Student Information System when you were admitted. You will need this number plus your Student ID (SID) number (your SSN number) to access your records in BOSS.

New undergraduate students receive their TECH e-mail USERID and Password along with their BOSS PIN by snail mail after attending Orientation. If you didn’t attend Orientation or you are a new graduate student, bring your TECH ID card to the Computing Center (Wyly Tower basement) to activate your TECH e-mail account USERID and Password. Then, take your TECH ID to the University Registrar’s office (Keeny Hall 207) and they will look up and provide you with your BOSS PIN.

Note: 1. For your own privacy and protection, do not give out your TECH userid, password, SID, or BOSS PIN to anyone. For security reasons, the University will only e-mail reminders of your USERID, Password, and BOSS PIN to your TECH e-mail account. The University will not e-mail these elements to commercial ISP accounts. If you “pop” your e-mail from your TECH account to a commercial ISP account, you assume personal responsibility for the protection of your private information. 2. The University strongly suggests that you change your PIN to a number only you know (and will readily remember). When you type your PIN while logging on, it will appear as ****** to prevent others from seeing it. Six digits must be entered, with no spaces.

5. What do I do if I forget my BOSS PIN?

You can obtain your BOSS PIN in one of several ways:

1. In Person: bring your TECH ID to the University Registrar’s office (Keeny Hall 207) and they will look it up and provide you with your BOSS PIN.

2. Using your TECH e-mail account, send a request for your BOSS PIN # to Registrar@LaTech.edu and we will send your BOSS PIN# back to you. Include your full name, social security number, and date of birth in the request. Remember, for security reasons, the University will only e-mail reminders of your BOSS PIN # to your TECH e-mail account. The University will not send your PIN to commercial ISP accounts. If you “pop” your e-mail from your TECH account to a commercial ISP account, you assume personal responsibility for the protection of your private information.

3. FAX a signed request for the PIN # to (318) 257-4041 and we will FAX the number back to you at a FAX number of your choosing. Be sure to include your full name, social security number, date of birth, telephone number, and the FAX number you want us to return it to. Unsigned requests will not be processed.

9. How do I resign from the University?

Students who drop all of their classes are actually resigning from the University. See the Academic Calendar(http://www.latech.edu/registrar/calendar.shtml) for cutoff dates and deadlines governing drops and resignations. Come by Keeny Hall 207 and pick up a Resignation Card. You will be given specific instructions for processing your resignation. Once the action is completed and returned to the Registrar’s Office, they will load the action immediately. 11. What happens if I neglect to complete Fee Payment or Registration Confirmation by the deadlines?

Your class schedule will be purged (cancelled). Students participating in registration are responsible for completing fee payment by the dates scheduled - see Critical Registration Dates. This also includes any student receiving any form of financial aid or scholarship assistance. It is critical that students receiving aid complete the Registration Confirmation process through their Account Summary menu option on BOSS.

This information is also available in the online and printed versions of “The Racing Form” General Information section.

12. What does “Schedule Purge” mean?

All students are required to pay in full or confirm registration by the purge deadlines. Failure to complete fee payment or schedule confirmation by the published deadlines will result in the purging (cancellation) of the student’s class schedule. Once a schedule has been purged, the student will be required to register again, selecting from the classes available at that time. After the second purge, a $50 late registration payment penalty will apply.

Students are responsible for making timely payments for all tuition, fees, and charges due the University.

This information is also available in the online and printed versions of “The Racing Form” General Information section.

Return to Questions Menu

13. What does “Registration Confirmation” mean?

All students are required to pay the full amount due the University at the time of payment. The full amount due is shown on the “Class Schedule and Fee Charges” form received in the Registration Center or on the on-line Account Summary accessed through BOSS.

Registration Confirmation: All students who have zero or credit balances because their fees are paid by scholarships, federal financial aid, fee waivers, or other credits are required to confirm their registration to complete the registration process. If a student’s ending balance on the “Class Schedule and Fee Charges” form received in the Registration Center or on the on-line “Account Summary” accessed through BOSS is zero or a credit balance, then the student is eligible to confirm registration. If the ending balance indicates an amount due to the University, the student will be required to complete payment in full.

If additional charges are incurred after a student has paid the full amount due or confirmed registration, these charges must be paid before the payment deadline to avoid the purge (cancellation) of classes. Additional charges are incurred when a student adds courses and adds or changes a dorm selection, meal plan, or Tech Express plan. The student’s schedule will not be purged if minor charges totaling $250 or less are incurred after the payment in full of the original balance due or registration confirmation.

This information is also available in the online and printed versions of “The Racing Form” General Information section.
