Louisiana Tech University has the responsibility for effectively supervising any access to and/or release of official data/information about its students. Certain items of information about individual students are fundamental to the educational process and must be recorded. This recorded information concerning students must be used for clearly defined purposes, must be safeguarded and controlled to avoid violations of personal privacy, and must be appropriately destroyed when the justification for its collection and retention no longer exists. In this regard, Louisiana Tech University is committed to protecting to the maximum extent possible the right of privacy of all the individuals about whom it holds information, records, and files. Access to and release of such records is restricted to the student concerned, to others with the student's written consent, to officials within the school, to a court of competent jurisdiction, and otherwise pursuant to law.
Portions of the educational record contain information defined by FERPA and the institution as DIRECTORY INFORMATION. This information may be released or published by the University without the prior consent of the student. However, the student does have the right to request, in writing, that the University not release their directory information without their written consent.
Louisiana Tech University designates the following information as DIRECTORY INFORMATION:
- Name, date, and place of birth
- Local address
- Permanent address
- Telephone number
- Classification
- Major field of study
- Participation in official University activities and sports
- Weight and height of members of athletic teams
- Dates of attendance at the University
- Degrees, honors, and awards received at the University
- The most recently attended educational institution
- Current class schedule
- Photos
- e-Mail addresses
