The Bernice United Methodist Church recently donated two documents to the society---a yellowed envelope face with faded print, postmarked Ruston, November (18 or 19), 1899; return address, Lewis & Standifer, Fire Insurance, Ruston, La.; and addressed to Mr. A.C. Harper, Weldon P.O., LA; and its original contents—an insurance policy, dated November 15, 1899. The documents were discovered by Vi Harlow among records retrieved
from the former church which was destroyed by fire The policy was issued by The Phoenix Insurance Company of Hartford, Connecticut, and Reads, “In consideration of the stipulations Herein named and of Twenty Seven Dollars Premium does insure W.M. Ferguson, President Board of Trustees for the term of five years from the Fifteenth day of November 1899, at noon, to the Fifteenth day of November 1904, At noon, against all direct loss or damage by Fire, except as hereinafter provided.
