DESCRIPTION:
Mortarboard belonging to L.P.I. President E.S. Richardson. [1936-1941]. After his death, his daughter gave it and his commencement gown to Rev. Merrill, then pastor of the Trinity United Methodist Church in Ruston. Rev. Merrill wore the gown when he preached on Sundays until it became threadbare. He wore the mortarboard to receive his Ph.D. and in ceremonies at Centenary College, where he serves on the board of trustees.
Donated in honor of the centennial of Louisiana Tech University, 1894-1994.
