LEADERS INFLUENCING FUTURE THINKING (L.I.F.T)

A PLC initiative where members devote time and energy to meet with their peers confidentially and individually to discuss issues of concern, supply professional resources and offer referral if concerns are beyond their scope of assistance. The goal of L.I.F.T. is to generate an atmosphere emphasizing four distinct principles:

  • Acceptance
  • Compassion
  • Encouragement
  • Knowledge

The PLC is comitted to building trust, listening actively, presenting valid information, offering referral sources and maintaining confidentiality. This process will permit peer leaders to enter the "quality world" of their fellow students, assisting them in personally making healthier and wiser life choices. Students seeking peer advice and consultation can contact Counseling Services to arrange a private one-on-one session.

ADVOCATE AND SUPPORT OF UNIVERSITY PROGRAMMING

The PLC assists Counseling Services with alcohol, anxiety and depression screenings, the Louisiana Tech Major's Fair, the University Wellness Fair, etc. The organization also promotes positive role modeling, encourages peer leadership, and adds credibility to PLC's overall mission
