Using the Housing Portal (for incoming freshmen only)

How to find a roommate & the steps necessary to confirm the roommate assignment

The roommate-matching portion of the online housing portal will be available once you complete your application by paying the $150 nonrefundable application fee.  You can begin searching for compatible roommates, invite students to live with you, and accept or decline roommate requests.  However, you will only be able to search among students that have also completed the housing application.  Please review the step-by-step instructions before beginning the roommate search process.

If you know who you want to be your roommate, you must still go into the portal, requests each other as roommates, and accept the roommate requests before you will be able to invite this person to room with you.  Only requested and confirmed roommates will be able to be invited into your room during your assigned room selection dates.

If you fail to choose a room assignment before June 1st, our office will randomly assign you with a roommate into space available at the time.  If you need assistance after June 1st, please contact our office at housing@latech.edu.

Step 1:  Log in to the online housing portal.  Use your Campus Wide ID (CWID) number as your username and the password that was previously used to apply for housing.

Step 1 of roommate search

Step 2:  Click on "Application" at the top of the menu bar.  Select the term in which you applied and click "Save & Continue".

Step 3:  Click on the circle in the grey status bar for "Web Profile".

Step 4:  Welcome to the Roommate Finder Page.  While on the main page of the roommate finder, you will see a variety of ways to search for potential roommates and be able to view those roommates who are both suggested and have been accepted.

Step 4 roommate guide

    1. Search for roommates by details:  If you already know whom you want to room with, you can enter their screen name to find them and ask them to be your roommate.  Only students who have completed the application steps and paid the application fee will be visible in your search.  You may also search by descriptive words and age.search for roommates by details
    2. Search for roommates by profile questions:  If you would like to see only those students who answered the same on their survey, you may use this option to narrow down your search.  This enables you to place greater emphasis on specific roommate survey questions.search by survey questions
    3. Browse matching roommates:  While the suggested roommates list only shows your top matches, browsing your matching roommate list enables you to see a greater amount of potential roommates.browse matching roommates

Step 5:  Once you have determined which building you would like to reside in (we recommend speaking to your accepted roommate and doing this prior to your room selection appointment), you will click on that building preference and a list of all rooms will appear.  To select a room, click on the room, which will then become highlighted.  Click "Save & Continue" at the bottom of the page.

Step 6:  Next, you will be able to see the specifics of your selected room.  The 3/3 next to the building and room number shows that there are a total of 3 beds in the room and none have already been reserved.  (If you see 1/2 next to a building, this means that there are a total of 2 beds in the room and 1 has already been assigned.  If you try to reserve a space for both you and your accepted roommate, this room would not be an option, as there are not enough beds available.)  Please make sure you click on those rooms/apartments that have enough space available to accommodate your accepted roommate(s).

Please remember that you will only be able to assign those students into your room who are listed in your "Accepted Roommates" list.  Also, the student cannot already have an assignment in the portal.

Step 7:  To choose the room in which you selected, you will click on the room to highlight it and click "Save & Continue".

Step 8:  At this time, you will assign bed spaces to both you and your accepted roommate.  Select a bed space by clicking on an available space next to the "My Bed" designation.  Again, only your "Accepted Roommates" will be visible on this page.  You will also assign a bed space to your roommate.  You can assign more than one roommate into your room if appropriate bed spaces are available.  You have five minutes to complete this step.  If you do not complete the assignment before five minutes, you will need to start all over and the unassigned spaces will not be held for you or your accepted roommate.  Once you have successfully assigned yourself and your roommate, click "Reserve Beds" at the bottom of the page.

Step 9:  Once you click "Reserve Beds" you will be directed to a "Confirm Room" step in the top gray status bar.  This step will give you valuable information regarding your reservation.  You may want to verify by clicking "Application Status" directly above the top gray status bar.  This page contains the current status of your application, lists room reservation details and occupancy information regarding your reservation.  Please contact our office at housing@latech.edu if you have any questions regarding your application status.

Room Confirmation

Step 10:  Please note that the accepted roommates, whom you invited to live with you, will need to log in to their portal to confirm the room in which you assigned them.  Once they have accepted your request to become roommates, they give you the ability to assign them into a space.  Assigning a roommate means that the roommate cannot choose another living space in the portal - only confirm the space that you assigned them.  Should your accepted roommate decide not to reside where you assigned him/her, our office would need to be contacted to complete a room assignment change on our end.  A student cannot have multiple assignments in the portal.

 Room selection confirmation

Step 11:  Once you confirm your room, you will be directed to a page that enables you to sign the Housing Agreement/Lease.  Please review this information carefully before typing your Campus Wide ID number in the field at the bottom of the page, which serves as your signature of agreement to the terms/lease.  You may print the page for your records.  To complete this page, click "I agree to the University Housing Contract Terms & Conditions."  Please contact our office at housing@latech.edu if you have any questions regarding your application status.
