Sororities/Panhellenic::FAQs
What does Sorority Life Offer?
The Louisiana Tech University Panhellenic Council welcomes you to Louisiana Tech University and invites you to participate in Formal Membership Recruitment!  Pledging a sorority means becoming a part of a group with diverse characteristics and a common goal.  Together we seek to better our college, our community, and ourselves.  There is a strong emphasis on scholarship and an ever-rising academic standard set by the Greek System.  Sororities at Louisiana Tech join together to serve the community and other philanthropies.  Sorority members become leaders on campus with the leadership experience gained in the sorority and the support from sisters.  Sorority membership is not for four years; it's for life!

What is Recruitment?

Recruitment is the time to meet and learn about each sorority and the Greek community at Louisiana Tech University.  Formal Recruitment is held once a year.  It is a four-day process during which you will have the chance to meet each of the four sororities.  The Panhellenic Council has carefully planned and organized activities so that you will have the chance to meet the women who are members of sororities, visit their houses, and learn about sorority life.  We invite you to find out more about what sorority life has to offer you.  Recruitment will be August 27 - August 31, and women residing in the dorms for Fall Quarter may move into their residence hall on Wednesday, August 27, from 4:00-6:00 p.m. Due to limited space, commuters are unable to stay in the dorms during Recruitment but will be expected to participate in all activities on campus and abide by Recruitment Rules.  Commuters with a drive of more than 20-30 minutes may want to make arrangements to stay in Ruston during Recruitment due to late night activities.  Panhellenic members look forward to seeing you Wednesday at 8PM for a brief recruitment orientation in Howard Auditorium.
What is Panhellenic?

A college Panhellenic Association is composed of all members of the sororities on campus.  The College Panhellenic Council is the local governing body of all sororities and is composed of one or more chapter delegates from each of the sororities.  The College Panhellenic Council is responsible for local Panhellenic operations in accordance with the National Panhellenic Council's policies and procedures.  Panhellenic organizes and sponsors Formal Recruitment and encourages the highest possible academic, social, and moral standards.

How Can I Register?

Please TYPE or PRINT the Recruitment Registration Form and make six (6) copies of the completed form.  Attach six (6) wallet size pictures of yourself with your name on the back.  These pictures are used for identification purposes only, so any clear photo will be acceptable.  Also, include a transcript with your principal's signature  or school seal, or an official college transcript.  Make a check for $80 payable to Louisiana Tech Panhellenic Council.  This fee covers computer costs, mailing, publications, recruitment supplies, meals during recruitment, and a T-shirt.  Do not send cash!  Place the check and the six (6) photos and copies in one envelope and mail to:

What Should I Wear?
There is a series of four events during Formal Recruitment:  Open House, Philanthropy Day, Skit Day, and Preference Day.  The most important thing to remember is to be comfortable and to be yourself!
  • Open House - Bulldog Spirit: wear your favorite Tech shirt or just wear Tech colors along with casual bottoms
  • Philanthropy Day - Everyone will wear shorts and their Recruitment T-Shirt.
  • Skit Day - A sundress or nice pants is appropriate for this day.
  • Preference Day - A dressy dress is appropriate; however, nothing as elaborate as a prom dress is recommended.
  • Bid Night - You are required to wear a white dress.

What are Recommendations?

A recommendation, or a "rec", is a letter or written statement endorsing you for sorority membership.  It is sent by a sorority alumna to the school where you intend to go and will be written strictly for the alumna's sorority.  Recommendations are not a guarantee that you will receive an invitation or a bid from a chapter.  They serve primarily as an introduction, a "foot in the door."  At Louisiana Tech, it is not required to have recommendations, but it helps the chapters learn more about the potential new members.  Obtaining recommendations is the sorority's responsibility; however, if an alumna you know wishes to write a letter of reference then they should do so.  Recommendations should be sent directly to the Panhellenic address in care of the sorority for which it is intended.  It is to your advantage to turn in your registration form as soon as possible so the sorority may seek any additional information, if necessary.
