Admission to
the Honors Program
Students
applying to Louisiana Tech as freshmen who have a composite score of 26
on the ACT (or a comparable score on the SAT) and/or graduated in the
top 10% of their graduating class will be eligible to enter the Honors
Program. These students should request an application form, which they
can fill out and send back to the Director of the Honors Program. Other
students who do not meet these requirements, but who wish to join the
Honors Program, will be considered on a student by student basis.
Acceptance into the program will be decided on the student's previous
record of academic achievement, letters of recommendation from high
school teachers, advisors, or college professors, any extracurricular
activities or other evidence of high achievement, and a writing
sample.Students must still fulfill all the requirements of the
Foundations 21 curriculum in order to receive an Honors Scholar
designation on their transcript. Transfer of credits from other
colleges or universities will be considered on a case by case basis. To
remain in the Honors Program, a student must maintain at least a 3.3
overall GPA (after an annual review conducted in June) and remain in
good standing with the college and university policies on academic
conduct.
A student who is not in the Honors Program, but has a cumulative GPA of
3.3 or higher, may enroll in honors courses or seminars with special
permission from the Director of the Honors Program.
