  2.
  3. Accurate, honest, and complete information should be provided to prospective applicants describing the nature and scope of the study-travel program, including its opportunities and limitations, how and where instruction will be given, the relationship, if any, to a foreign institution, grading practices, significant differences between a home campus experience and what can be expected during the travel study experience.
  1. Applicants should have the maturity, academic background and achievement, and motivation necessary for success in the type of study-travel program.

  2.
  3. The study-travel program should include an orientation, both pre-departure and ongoing, which assists participants in making appropriate personal, social, and academic adjustments.

  2.
  3. The study-travel program should encourage effective use of the unique physical, human, and cultural resources of the host environment, and the academic standards of the travel-study experience program should be comparable to those at the home campus.  There should be clearly defined criteria and policies for judging performance and assigning credit in accordance with prevailing standards and practices at Louisiana Tech University.
  1. Administrative arrangements (such as health insurance, housing, transportation and finances) and support services should be managed effectively by carefully selected and qualified staff who have appropriate academic and administrative experience necessary to perform the work.  Travel arrangements gements must be made in accordance with University travel regulations.

  2.
  3. Each study-travel program should be evaluated periodically by student participants, program administrators, and the appropriate tour review committee to determine the extent to which objectives and purposes of the experience have been met.  Changes should be made in light of the findings.

CODOFIL/MICEFA

CODOFIL

CODOFIL, the Council for the Development of French in Louisiana, was established in 1968 by the Louisiana state legislature to "do any and all things necessary to accomplish the development, utilization, and preservation of the French language as found in Louisiana for the cultural, economic and touristic benefit of the state."

An Agreement for Academic Cooperation has been made between the CODIFIL Consortium of Colleges and Universities in Louisiana (the CCCU) and the Interuniversity Mission for the Coordination of Franco-American Exchanges, or MICEFA.  This agreement allows Louisiana students to spend one academic year studying at a French university at a cost similar to that being paid for a university in Louisiana.  This student exchange is explained below:

MICEFA

MICFA, the Interuniversity Mission for the Coordination of Franco-American Exchanges, provides instruction through the faculty, staff, and facilities of the affiliated Universities of Paris, located in Paris, France.

The agreement between the CCCU and MICEFA has these provisions affecting students at Louisiana universities when they enroll in one of the affiliated Universities of Paris::

  • Louisiana exchange students may enroll for one semester or for one academic year;
  • Louisiana exchange students will be enrolled as full-time, non-degree students;
  • Louisiana exchange students will be expected to abide ty all academic and performance standards and riles of conduct generally applied to students of French universities;
  • Louisiana CCCU member universities have agreed to accept credits from the French university; the Louisiana university and student advisors will determine how these courses may be used in the student's plan of study.
  • Louisiana exchange students will pay only the tuition and fees normally charged by their home universities, such as Louisiana Tech University; these costs are paid directly to the home university;
  • Louisiana exchange students must pay for any special course or other fees not included in the standard fees;
  • Louisiana exchange students are responsible for paying expenses such as travel, room and board, meal plans, and lab fees;
  • Louisiana exchange students must have a passport;

Council on International Educational Exchange

The following information is from the CIEE web site at http://www.ciee.org/about_ciee.cfm?subnav=ciee

Since 1947, the Council on International Educational Exchange, known as CIEE and formerly, Council, has been in pursuit of its mission, "to help people gain understanding, acquire knowledge, and develop skills for living in a globally interdependent and culturally diverse world." Our services to young people studying, working, and traveling abroad are more important than ever. As we look ahead, we reaffirm our commitment to the principles and values that guide this mission statement.

Today, CIEE is divided into two interrelated but operationally independent entities: CIEE-International Study Programs, and CIEE Exchanges.  The actual sale of Council Travel Services, Inc., took place on September 1, 2001 to USIT world. With the sale of Council Travel, our activities are confined to Study Abroad and International Exchange.

About CIEE International Study Programs

Council on International Educational Exchange (CIEE) offers educational programs abroad for students, faculty and educational administrators. In addition, CIEE is responsible for the Annual Conference on International Educational Exchange, a major annual event for professionals in international educational exchange and is the founding institution and one of the on-going sponsors of the Journal of Studies in International Educational Exchange, a forum for noteworthy scholarship and provocative thinking about efforts to provide quality international educational exchange programs.

For a student, visiting this web site can be an important first step in embarking on an educational venture that will have a significant impact on the rest of one's life. For most students who take part of their college education overseas, the experience abroad is important in shaping a world view, establishing a career, and constructing an individual relationship with society.

CIEE offers study abroad opportunities at its 60 CIEE Study Center programs in 29 countries around the world. The CIEE Study Centers provide curricula specifically designed with the American undergraduate in mind, and offer superior student services and activities that help U.S. undergraduates derive maximum benefit from the experience. The primary goal of the CIEE Study Centers is to provide a rewarding and respected academic experience through creative curricular design, discriminating selection of host institutions and courses, careful hiring and training of CIEE teachers, and diligent continuous self-assessment of program elements.

For faculty and administrators, CIEE offers International Faculty Development Seminars, which are 7- to 12-day, intensive overseas experiences designed to explore international issues while allowing participants to exchange views with academic peers in other countries. The seminars provide an opportunity to focus on global issues and regions that are shaping the course of world events. Participants gain a new view of their own discipline within a broader international context, and return to their campuses prepared to incorporate new international perspectives into curricula and course design.
