Dr. Lajeane Thomas,
Professor, Curriculum, Instruction, and Leadership at
Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, Louisiana serves as Chair
of the International Society for Technology in Education
(ISTE) Accreditation and Standards Committee and Director of
the National Educational Technology Standards (NETS) projects
funded through the U.S. Department of Education Preparing
Tomorrow's Teachers to Use Technology (PT3) initiative. She
has led development of the National Educational Technology
Standards for Students and Teachers, and spearheaded
development and publication of standards-based resources
designed to support student learning with technology (See:
http://cnets.iste.org). Lajeane served as
Project Administrator for the Louisiana Innovative Challenge
Grant facilitating integration of technology in underserved
schools, participating in the development of the first
Louisiana State Plan for Technology, and founding the
Louisiana Technology Consortium for Teacher Education.
Dr. Thomas has
served on the National Educational Computing Conference (NECC)
Board, on the ISTE Board, and is a past ISTE President. She
currently holds positions on the Executive Board of the
National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education
(NCATE), and as ISTE's representative to NCATE has led the
effort to establish educational technology standards used for
accreditation of teacher preparation programs. She served on
the NCATE Technology Task Force which released the report,
Technology and the New Professional Teacher: Preparing for the
21st Century Classroom; the ATE National Commission on
Technology and the Future of Teacher Education; and the US
Department of Education, PT3 Coordinating Council. At the
National Educational Computing Conference (NECC) 1997 in
Seattle, she received the ISTE Outstanding Technology Leader
in Education Award.
