Dr.
Jane Griffin ,
An adjunct
professor with Louisiana Tech University in
the Department of Curriculum, Instruction, and
Leadership was recently named principal of the year in
the State of Louisiana. Congratulations to Dr. Griffin
on her accomplishment. She serves as principal of
Winnfield Sr. High School in Winnfield, LA.

There's an Angel
among us!
Glenn is one
of eight finalist in Louisiana for the Blue Cross/Blue
Shield Angel Award. This award is given to deserving
people who have done outstanding work with and for
children.

Mrs. Brenda
Lofton
Lofton named
Louisiana Teacher of the Year!
“I have always
wanted to be a teacher, and I got a feel for it at a
very young age,” says Brenda Lofton, the 2005
Louisiana teacher of the Year. Now in her 20th year of
teaching ,Brenda teaches math and science at the AE
Phillips Laboratory school. |

Dr. Pauline
Leonard
Project EPAS
2005-06 was a pilot project which partnered the College
of Education with LaSIP, the Louisiana Board of Regents,
and ACT to helpLouisiana schools better utilize ACT's
Educational Planning and Assessment System (EPAS). The
goal was to equip teachers, counselors and school
administrators to use EPAS to direct counseling
services, plan instructional interventions for students,
evaluate and monitor their progress, and to help prepare
them for postsecondary education success. The project
has been refunded for the 2006-07 academic year and
College of Education project team members continue to be
intensely involved in facilitating workshops designed to
empower ten new school teams to deliver EPAS
professional development at their respective school
sites.

Dr. Janis
Hill
Dr.
Janis Pardue Hill is the ELA Project Coordinator for the
K-16 PSR Grant, a Board of Regents initiative that
partners Louisiana Tech University with the Monroe City
School System. She also works with the La SIP EPAS
Grant, designed to predict and improve high school
students’ scores on the ACT, and serves as one of the
co-directors for the CSI Grant, which focuses on
improvement of the Reading Language Competencies for
middle and high school students.

"The
Reading CSI Project"
There are five co-directors of "The Reading CSI Project"
Dr. Amy Massey Vessel, Dr. Kimberly Kimbell-Lopez, Dr.
Carrice Cummins, Dr. Janis Hill, and Dr. Tamara Powell.
The first four are from the CIL department.
The
Reading C/SI (Competencies/Subject Integration) Project
was funded in spring of 2006 to provide professional
development to middle and secondary math, science, and
social studies teachers. With a national spotlight on
adolescent literacy, the project will emphasize
vocabulary, comprehension, writing, and assessment
strategies for these specific content areas.
Participants are represented from Caddo, Lincoln, Monroe
City, Morehouse, and Richland Parishes. Approximately
$265,000.00 in funding was provided by the Louisiana
Systemic Initiatives Program (LaSIP)/Louisiana Board of
Regents. Training will continue through the 2006-2007
academic year.
