Cooperative Education Program

The College of Engineering and Science is cooperating with certain industrial firms in a plan of alternate periods of work and university study for students in engineering, technology, and science. The Cooperative Education Program provides one of the best methods for intergrating technical theory and practical industrial experience.

The Cooperative Education Program will allow the student to have approximately one year of practical experience by the time of graduation. If the student accepts permanent employment with the cooperating company the necessity for taking special company orientation and training courses is usually eliminated. The Cooperative Education Program does not obligate the graduate to accpet employment with the cooperating company, nor does it obligate the company to offer permanent employment to the graduate.

Each student participating the Cooperative Education Program is required to register at Louisiana Tech during each work period.

Students from any academic program within the College of Engineering and Science will be considered for participation in the Cooperative Education Program provided they have successfully completed 45 semester credit hours of university work with a grade point average of at least 2.5. Requirements for graduation and the degree earned are the same as those for regular students. Individuals interested in further details should contact Bill Elmore Director of Cooperative Education Program, College of Engineering and Science, Louisiana Tech University, Ruston, LA 71272.
