Educational Objectives
(Goals)

The Educational Objectives (Goals) of the Undergraduate Program are as follows:

CSC-EO-01.  Depth. To produce graduates who have a fundamental knowledge of computer science.

CSC-EO-02.  Breadth. To produce graduates who have a broad education necessary for productive careers, or the pursuit of graduate education, including a knowledge of important current issues in computer science.

CSC-EO-03.  Professionalism. To produce graduates who have strong communications skills, who understand and undertake professional ethical responsibilities, and who function effectively as members and leaders of multi-disciplinary teams.

CSC-EO-04.  Lifelong Learning. To produce graduates who have the knowledge and skills to remain current in the field.


Program Outcomes

To achieve the Educationl Objectives, the Undergraduate Program provides its graduates with the following:

CSC-PO-01.  Both depth and breadth in computer science.

CSC-PO-02.  A solid understanding of the software engineering process.

CSC-PO-03.  An ability to think creatively and critically.

CSC-PO-04.  A breadth-wise education (outside of computer science) with depth in at least one secondary area.

CSC-PO-05.  An ability to understand and solve abstract problems.

CSC-PO-06.  Opportunities to develop effective team-based skills.

CSC-PO-07.  An exposure to state-of-the-art technologies.

CSC-PO-08.  An exposure to entrepreneurship skills.

CSC-PO-09.  Opportunities to develop effective written and oral communication skills.

CSC-PO-10.  An understanding of ethics, professionalism, and social issues.

CSC-PO-11.  An ability to design and analyze algorithms.

CSC-PO-12.  The foundation to engage in life-long learning.


Computer Science Curriculum

Graduation Requirements

All requirements listed in the General Information section of the University Catalog apply. In addition, a student majoring in a program in the College of Engineering and Science must have at least a 2.0 grade point average in courses bearing the specific rubric of the major program (e.g., computer science, civil engineering, etc.) when computed on all attempts for which a final grade was received (excluding 'W plus' grades). In order to graduate from a baccalaureate program in the College of Engineering and Science, a student must complete 27 of the last 36 hours in the curriculum while enrolled in the College.

Requirements for a Minor in Computer Science

Students in other departments who wish to minor in Computer Science are required to take 21 semester hours of Computer Science courses consisting of Computer Science 100, 120, 220, 325, and nine additional hours (six of which must be at the 300-level or above).
