Lecture
Jeffrey Smith
"The
Old Way of Seeing with a New Vision"
Tuesday,
March 23, at 6:30PM in Wyly Auditorium
Jeffrey Smith, architect, is a partner
Holly & Smith Architects of Hammond, Louisiana
Jeffrey Smith’s pursuit of architecture follows a family tradition begun
by his father, Harry Baker Smith. Jeffrey earned his architecture degree
from the University of Southwest Louisiana (now the University of Louisiana
at Lafayette) in 1979 and later teamed up with fellow alum Michael Holly
to form Holly & Smith in downtown Hammond. From this first partnership,
they have built Holly & Smith into the largest architecture firm in the
Northshore region of Louisiana. Design projects in architecture and interiors,
historic renovation, adaptive reuse, and master planning have earned the
firm local, state and regional design awards,
According to the firm’s website, “Talk is not cheap at Holly & Smith.
That’s because we define talk as open dialogue with our clients, and we
believe this is an invaluable first step in forming working relationships
that produce meaningful, functional, beautiful buildings..... Our work
ranges from iconic landmark structures to buildings that blend seamlessly
with their neighborhoods. They are all united by finely crafted design
that fulfills our client’s needs; follow-through and attention to detail
that surpasses expectation; and an approach and attitude at our firm that
makes so many of our clients repeat customers.”,
Holly and Smith Architects’ new book entitled, “H/S: A Culture of Design”,
focuses on the firm’s long standing commitment to a firm culture which
is grounded by a regional understanding of architecture and design. The
images within this small assemblage are manifestations of things the firm
have seen and liked. The book focuses on highlighting a devotion to design
that occurs at all levels, especially the smallest of details. The book
