College of Liberal Arts
Louisiana Tech University
Ruston, Louisiana

THEMATIC CONCENTRATION
The heart of the General Studies degree is an Interdisciplinary Thematic Concentration which consists of 24 hours (usually eight three-hour courses) chosen from at least two related disciplines. Students must pursue six to twelve hours of particular disciplines within the thematic concentration. For example, if a student chooses a concentration in social sciences, he or she might take twelve hours of sociology, six hours of political science, and six hours of geography, thus developing a true interdisciplinary foundation.

Arts: art, architecture, interior design, music theory, music history, and theatre.

Humanities: English, technical writing, journalism, history, speech communication, pre-professional speech-language pathology, foreign languages, and philosophy.

Social Sciences: anthropology, sociology, psychology, economics, geography, geographic information systems, and political science.
