Call
to Order: Norman Pumphrey
The October 21, 2002 meeting of the University Senate
was called to order at 4:03 p.m. in Prescott Memorial Library, Room 334, by
President Norman Pumphrey.
2.
Roll
Call: Rose Butler
Senators absent from the meeting were Mark Murphey, Lamar
Wilkinson, Ben Choi, Frank Ji, Tianhong Cui, Peggy Carter, Don Braswell, Susan
Elkins, and Celia Lewis.
3.
Adoption
of Agenda: Norman Pumphrey
A motion was made to accept the agenda. The motion was accepted and approved.
4.
Adoption
of the September 23, 2002 minutes.
A motion to accept the minutes was made. The motion was accepted, and the minutes
were approved.
5.
Announcements: Norman Pumphrey
Destruction of Hale Hall may cause parking in the
GTM parking lot which had been monitored earlier in the Fall Quarter. This
fall quarter’s Civil Engineering 332
class is doing
a survey of Tech parking. Results of
this class’ findings will be made at the end of the Fall quarter.
Dr. Pumphrey plans on meeting will University
Senators by college/division and has scheduled a meeting with the College of
Administration and Business next week.
A concern about lost parking in Carson-Taylor Hall
was submitted. Dr. Pumphrey said that
he will check on this situation and inform the Senate of his findings.

a.
University
Teacher Evaluation Form Revision –D’Eane Sheehan and Alan Goldspiel
The committee reported its finding concerning the
faculty/student evaluations. The form
recommended by the committee was the Aleamoni Course Instructor Evaluation
Questionnaire. An explanation of how
the evaluation form works was explained with a question/answer session. The Senate was asked to recommend adoption
of the Aleamoni Course Instructor Evaluation Questionnaire. After discussion, it was decided by the
Senate members to make a motion that the new form be presented to their
departments for further input. This
motion passed.

Post-tenure
review
No information available because the Administrative
and Planning Council postponed their meeting until October 22.

New
Business
Administrative and Planning Council Update - none
Specialized Services Award – Dr. Pumphrey discussed
a proposal to give an award to Specialty Services. There are about 60 eligible for the award. A committee will have to be set up in order
to establish rules for the award. Dr.
Rick Simmons agreed to be the chairman of the committee.
Investment of University Pool money – No report
The
meeting was adjourned at 4:53 pm.
