Call
to Order: Helen Baxter
The March 25, 2002 meeting of the University Senate
was called to order at 4:00 p.m. in Prescott Memorial Library, Room 334, by
President Helen Baxter.
2.
Roll
Call: Rose Butler
Senators absent from the meeting were Don Braswell,
Mary Louise Carter, Anita Dodson, Dan Erickson, William Green, Tony Grice,
Frank Ji, Mark Murphey, Randy Parker, Steve Patton, Billy Ray, Maurice Tassin,
Dena Westerfield, and Lamar Wilkinson.
3.
Adoption
of Agenda: Helen Baxter
A motion was made to accept the agenda. The motion was accepted and approved.
4.
Adoption
of the February 18, 2002 minutes.
A motion to accept the minutes was made. The motion was accepted, and the minutes
were approved.
5.
Announcements: Helen Baxter
Helen Baxter attended the 64th Conference
of Louisiana Colleges and Universities.
She reported that the state is trying to incorporate business with
education.
The Teacher's Retirement Systems of LA is also
looking for a representative on the TRSL Board of Trustees for a 4-year term
beginning January 1, 2003. Senators
were encouraged to share this news with their colleges and contact Helen for
more information if anyone is interested.

report
There was no Treasurer’s report.

Advisory Council – No report

Teacher’s
Evaluation Form Revision Committee Update – No report
c.
Tech
Parking Committee Report – Rick Simmons
Rick Simmons reported that a letter has been sent to
Jim King, and he is waiting for a response to the letter.
d.
Tree
Memorial – Helen Baxter
Helen Baxter thanked those who attended the ceremony
for the tree memorial held at 3:30 on March 25.

Tech
Ski Trip – Members were informed that the Tech ski trip is scheduled a year in
advance. This enabled students to know,
in advance, that the trip was scheduled for finals week. A motion was made to write a letter asking
that the trip be scheduled so that students do not miss their finals. Motion passed.
8.
New
Business
a.
Administrative
and Planning Council Update – It was reported that the budget for education
will be tight as the state economy is not good. Budgets for education have not been cut, however, unlike other
State offices.
b.
Tech
Renovations
Louisiana Tech has many upcoming renovations. Ropp Hall is almost finished. Renovation of Hale Hall is scheduled to
begin this summer. The
Jenkins/McFarland (dorm) renovation is next in line.

F.
J. Taylor Award – Letters have been sent out to faculty. Current vitas of the nominees will be posted
on the Senate website. Voting will be
in April.
d.
Virgil
Orr Award – Norman Pumphrey asked the members to nominate faculty at the end of
the meeting if they haven’t done so already.
The
