Call
to Order: Helen Baxter
The October 22, 2001 meeting of the University Senate
was called to order at 4:09 p.m. in Prescott Memorial Library, Room 334, by
President Helen Baxter.
2.
Roll
Call: Rose Butler
Senators absent from the meeting were Ben Choi,
Philip Coane, Dan Erickson, Barbara Garner, Steve Graves, William Green, Tony
Grice, Hisham Hegab, Tony Inman, Frank Ji, Winston MCVea, Mary Murimi, Mark
Murphey, Bill Ray, D’Eane Sheehan, Roger Shelor, Maurice Tassin and Dena
Westerfield.
3.
Adoption
of Agenda: Helen Baxter
A motion was made to accept the agenda. The motion was accepted and approved.
4.
Adoption
of the September 24, 2001 minutes.
A motion to accept the minutes was made. The motion was accepted, and the minutes
were approved.
5.
Announcements: Helen Baxter
Helen Baxter introduced Jerry Drewett, Vice
President of Administrative Services.
Mr. Drewett gave a presentation on capital outlay
and energy conservation for Louisiana Tech.
Information presented was on the new and continuing projects at the
university.
Mr. Drewett also presented an Energy Conservation
Chart showing the success of the conservation of energy by Louisiana Tech. All information concerning the capital
outlay and energy conservation is posted on the Tech webpage and is located in
the Division of Administrative Services page.
Mr. Drewett encouraged the faculty and staff to access the information.

Treasurer’s
report –Randy Parker
A motion was made to accept the Treasurer’s
report. The motion was accepted.
7.
Old
Business
a.
Teachers’
Evaluation Form Revision Committee Update – Alan Goldspiel
No information submitted because the committee has
not met.
b.
Parking
and Traffic Committee – Rick Simmons asked to table discussion until the next
meeting.
c.
Response
to New York and Washington Attacks by our University Senate
Helen Baxter asked if there were any suggestions for
a response. One response was to plant a
tree in the quadrangle in memory of those lost and injured in the attacks. After a discussion, it was decided to table
the decision until next month’s meeting.
8.
New
Business
a.
Administrative
and Planning Council – Norm Pumphries
The discussion at the meeting concerned Legislative
Act 455 which says that a teacher can retire and then return to teaching at
full salary. A concern of the council
was the impact on the state in paying for Act 455.
b.
Representative
to the Faculty Advisory Council – Helen Baxter
Carole Tabor, who represented the Senate on this
Council for many years, will come to the November meeting to inform the members
about the Council.
A
motion was made to adjourn. Motion
passed, and the meeting was adjourned at 5:12 p.m.
