Welcome to the Department of Social Sciences, home to Geography, Geographic Information Science, Political Science, Political Science with a Pre-Law Concentration, and Sociology. Our disciplines study a wide range of individual, institutional, and social behavior, and serve both as a means of gaining intellectual insights and approaches that will be rewarding for a lifetime as well as providing a degree that will lead to many exciting career options.

Our broad departmental goal is for students to acquire substantive knowledge in social sciences and achieve an appreciation for the ways in which we gain our understanding of other societies, as well as to enable students to view themselves in other, wider contexts. Our disciplines will, we hope, enable students to learn to think and write clearly and effectively.

We welcome you to our vibrant department, and hope you find the the resources available here useful. If you cannot find what you are looking for or have additional questions, feel free to stop by our Department Office (GTM 137), call 318.257.3427, or e-mail.
