An index or database must be used to search for journal or newspaper articles. They can be found on the Indexes and Abstracts page. In this tutorial, the word Journal is used for periodical, magazine, serial or journal.

Index: Search for journal or newspaper articles by SUBJECT, KEYWORD, AUTHOR, or TITLE. Index comes from the Latin word indicare meaning to point out; therefore an index does not provide the full text article, it merely indicates where it can be found.

Full-text Database: Search for journal or newspaper articles by SUBJECT, KEYWORD, AUTHOR, or TITLE. A database not only serves as an index, but also actually provides some of the information being sought. "Aggregate" databases contain articles from many different journals and / or newspapers, while many journals also have their own databases. Most online databases allow full text articles to be printed, down-loaded, or e-mailed.
