HISTORY OF THE TECH CHAPTER

The Eta Kappa Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha Fraternity, Inc. at Louisiana Tech University, was founded April 23, 1971.

Its founders were nine great men who through their vision saw a need to initiate an organization that exemplified manly deeds , scholarship and love for all mankind.

The pioneers of the Eta Kappa Chapter were: Fredrick Butler, Johnny Jenkins, Donald Miner, Fred Neal, Donald Owens, Ronnie Washington, Aubrey Woodley, Bernie Woods, and Stanley Youngblood.

The chapter has exalted itself among other Greek organizations at Louisiana Tech University during its 30 years' existence. The Eta Kappa Chapter takes care of business, as the following list of accomplishments proves:

        - Highest grade point average among all Greek organizations on Tech's predominantly White campus for many and more years to come.

        - Conducting highly publicized Black history programs annually, including the Martin Luther King Jr. Program, Tribute to the Black Woman.

In the light of these accomplishments, Eta Kappa has always been conscious of its responsibility to the community. the chapter has been an exceptionally active force through such projects as Adopt-a-Road, Custodial Day, Feeding Needy Families, and visiting, speaking and performing at Alpine Nursing Home and Children's Methodist Home.

Our desire is to live the legacy of Alpha Phi Alpha and to walk parallel with the mission of the fraternity.
