Sigma Kappa Sorority is more that just parties. We are a social
organization with high morals united by our mystic bond of sisterhood.
What do we do?
- Philanthropies: The Beta Epsilon chapter of Sigma
Kappa supports gerontology through visiting elders at the local Longleaf
nursing home. At the nursing home, we participate in events such as
monthly birthday parties, arts and crafts, a Valentine's Day Pageant, and an
Adopt-an-Elder program. We also participate in the Inherit the Earth
program where we are responsible for picking up the trash on Mississippi
Street. This is no easy task with five fraternity houses located on this
street. Our National philanthropies include the Maine Sea Coast Mission
where we send toiletries and donations. The Alzheimer's Association
receives contributions raised through our lollipop campaign,
Texas Hold 'em Poker Tournament, and Memory Walk.
- Parties: Our Chapter holds five main parties
per year. They include the Destination Unknown in the Fall, the Christmas
Semi-Formal and Deep Purple Ball in the Winter, and the Spring Party and
Crawfish Boil in the Spring. In addition to our main parties, we have
numerous social exchanges with the local fraternities on campus.
- Sisterhood: Our bond is strengthened by
various activities such as a Sisterhood retreat, a shopping trip to Dallas,
Facials for Finals, and Progressive Dinners, just to name a few. We
also offer events each week during our new member Promise Program such as
Dinner at Sonic, Ice Cream Parties, and Movie Nights.
- Intramurals: At Louisiana Tech, we participate
in all sports such as Flag Football, Basketball, Volleyball, Soccer, and
Softball. We have been the sorority champs in Flag Football for the
past five
years. For those sisters who do not enjoy participating in athletics, we encourage them to
come to cheer our team with purple pom poms and
megaphones.
What are the benefits?
- Lifelong friendships: Sigma Kappa unites it sisters in lifelong
friendships that span across the United States, and overseas.
- Philanthropy opportunities: We participate in many philanthropy events such
as visiting Longleaf nursing home, Inherit the Earth, Maine Sea Coast
Mission, and fundraising for Alzheimer's Association.
- Connections after graduation: We have alumnae across the nation that aid
graduating seniors in getting a job.
How much does it cost?
Financial responsibility is very important to Sigma Kappa.
Monthly dues are $45 (Sept.-May) with an additional $55 per quarter for the social
and panhellenic fees. There are some initial one
time fees that are due periodically throughout the pledging. In
addition to your dues, you have the opportunity to purchase T-shirts for parties
and pay minimal costs for sisterhood trips. We do offer three $100
scholarships each quarter for need and involvement in Sigma Kappa to help our
members who are struggling with their financial responsibility.
Why Sigma Kappa?
Our members are involved in most organizations on campus including
Orientations Student Leaders, Student Advancement Team, Union Board, Student
Recruiters, Student Government Association, Order of Omega Greek Honor Society,
as well as numerous other honor societies.
In addition to our involvement in organizations on campus, our member have
received multiple honors including Sigma Nu White Rose (Lauren McGehee), PIKE
Dream Girl (Emily Eoff), and Homecoming Court representatives (Emily Steed and
Erica Timmons).
