Old Business
- Need to get bents: Corresponding Secretary Bill Burgess needs to send a letter to the
University of Alabama for bents
- Need fund raiser soon
- Bulletin board by IEEE board is in progress
- Tutoring started -- each member needs to sign up
- 17 eligible initiates -- we have a list of initiates w/ their classes
- Vice President will handle all initiation responsibilities
- Pledge activities: 1) Prepare bent
- 2) Clean HKN bent outside Nethken Hall
- 3) Take HKN test
- Notification to initiates' parents -- We will send letters to parents of initiates. This means we
need to revise the information sheet that the initiates fill out to include their parents' names
and addresses as well as their home newspapers' names and phone numbers.
- Announcement of initiates -- We will put announcement for initiates in Tech Talk and local
paper. We will also try to put announcements in initiates' home newspapers.
- Project Managers: 1) Spencer Williams
- 2) Bill Burgess
- Date for meeting initiates -- October 3 at 7:00 pm (the next scheduled meeting) is the
tentative date for having a mixer with the initiates. Plans: Have pizza at the meeting and
invite initiates to attend.
- Project Manager: Vincent Yee
- Initiates' test -- The initiates' test is scheduled for October 10. The initiation will be held on
October 17. The initiation meeting will also serve as the last HKN meeting for the quarter.
- We need to register last spring's initiates and get their certificates.
New Business
- HKN Meetings -- first Tuesday of each month, signs will be up
- Faculty Advisor -- Claude J. Irby and Mickey D. Cox are willing

- New Vice President -- Wes was removed as VP (President's decision, supported by officers)
- Graduate students can hold offices

- Projects -- service project, social function, and fund raiser each quarter

- Andrew -- canned food drive for Thanksgiving
- Bill -- canned food drive and sand blast motors
- Sand blasting and painting on hold until next meeting

- Trip to DeGray Lake on a weekend -- not enough support; possibly in spring
- HKN Home Page -- Put minutes, announcements, projects, etc., on home page. We need to
find a permanent home for our home page.
- Resumes for faculty -- We need to keep a database of our resumes available to the faculty.
Project Manager: Dave Rouch
- T-Shirts -- Planned for the beginning of the spring quarter. The shirts should have an EE
theme. We may sponsor a contest in the Art Department for the best design for a $50 reward.

- National has requested that we submit outstanding juniors for a scholarship contest. Dave
will talk to Dr. Irby for the best candidates.
- Tutoring is going well. We need people to sign up for times.
