The Theta Pi Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma was chartered on the campus of Louisiana Tech University in March of 1977. The "Charter Line" for our most glorious band of brothers, were composed of five very strong minded and intelligent brothers. These five Honorable Men of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. were Richard Charles Butler III, Glenn Mckinley, Carl Goudeau, Alexander Patrick Hamilton, and George Tomkies.
Through the values of these brothers and our founders we support the values of brotherhood, scholarship, and service. We try and implement these values throughout the community. With our special programs EDUCATION, SOCIAL ACTION, AND BIGGER AND BETTER BUSINESS. The Theta Pi chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. is very much involved in the community and on the campus of Louisiana Tech University.
Through our special programs we try to provide the service and live up to our motto “CULTURE FOR SERVICE, SERVICE FOR HUMANITY”. Through our education program we support the Boys and Girls Club of America, pass packets out about STD's, give education forums, and have tutored evacuees from hurricane Katrina. Social action is one of our biggest programs, we try to always help out in the community, with road clean ups, The March of Dimes, cleaning churches, and participating in Louisiana Tech’s Big Event. Another program we support is Bigger and Better Business. We try to educate our community about bettering themselves in every way. We have brought in business owners, bankers, and leaders in the community to come and talk and try to better our people.
Theta Pi has also embarked upon a successful partnership with a variety of charitable organizations such as Project SATAP (Sigmas Against Teen-Age Pregnancy), March of Dimes Birth Defect Foundation, Project MOVE (Men of Vision and Enlightenment), Sickle Cell Anemia Foundation, Head Start Program, The Great Louisiana Trash Bash Road Clean Up, The Big Brother Tutoring Program, The Louisiana Adopt-A-Road Program, and The Phi Beta Sigma Scholarship Program. The chapter also donates food baskets to the needy during the Thanksgiving and Christmas holidays.
The Theta Pi Chapter participates in many campus activities including the SGA sponsored BIG EVENT, the Louisiana Tech Unity Step Greek Show, the , The Pan-Hellenic Week and stepping in the Louisiana Tech Freshman Orientation Show, during the summer to expose incoming freshman to Phi Beta Sigma. |
