April 13, 1969 climaxed an exciting six months for a small group of girls who were interested in furthering music and their intended careers. On that day, twenty-six girls were initiated into Sigma Alpha Iota and christened Epsilon Kappa chapter.
Six years before the initiation, a few girls met and decided to get a music club started. "The Allegros" were formed and their advisor Dr. Louise Alton, a SAI alumnae, wanted this group to form a Sigma Alpha Iota chapter. In 1967, the club consisted of fifteen members who petitioned for acceptance as a SAI chapter. Under the leadership of President Betty Holbert and advisor Sue Moore, the girls kept their hopes high.
Mrs. Ruth Gold, National President of Sigma Alpha Iota, visited in November and took the petition with her. Finally, on January 23, 1969, the petition was accepted.
