Zeta Phi Chapter History
In the Fall quarter of the 1981-1982 school year, a group of women in the Louisiana Tech University Band requested to become a colony of the National Band Sorority, Tau Beta Sigma. With the help of the university, the music department, and the Delta Sigma chapter from Northeast Louisiana University, their dream soon became a reality
On April 17, 1982, the Louisiana tech Colony of Tau Beta Sigma became the Zeta Phi chapter (no. 165). The five charter members were:
Tracie A. Birdwell
Melissa Brown
Dorothy Polman
Carol Elaine Sewell
Cathy Darlene Sewell
Mrs. Georgia Huckaby, sponsor
Since our date of charter, we have had several pledge classes and have had over 90 women go active in our chapter.
Among many projects we do for Louisiana Tech Band, we sell t-shirts, perform usher services for the School of Performing Arts, organize and run Ark-La-Tex with our brother, Kappa Kappa Psi cheer to raise the spirit of the band, and provide an outlet for enthusiasm for the band.
Tau Beta Sigma members can also be found hard at work occupying many leadership and staff positions in the band and throughout the university. Many sisters are section leaders and/or in addition to this work in staff positions such as uniform staff, equipment office, library, and office support.
Here at Louisiana Tech, the Zeta Phi Chapter has become an integral part to the Tech Band. Through friendship and sister hood, we help to form a framework within the band, which supports and sustains it. With our brothers in Kappa Kappa Psi, the Tech family, and all the members of the band, Tau Beta Sigma helps to make Louisiana Tech Band what it is today.
