Consortium Information

Louisiana Tech University
http://www.latech.edu/

Louisiana Tech has had a close working relationship with the town of Dubach for a number of years. For example, Louisiana Tech’s Architecture Department is working with the city on a master plan and has designed and built several structures in the community. The Center for Rural Development at Louisiana Tech is currently working with the town of Dubach to develop a website for the city. Students from the sociology department assisted Dubach in recounting the population to correct the Census Data which indicated Dubach would move from town to village status.

Town of Dubach

The town of Dubach has had a relationship with Louisiana Tech over a number of years. Under the leadership of Mayor Margaret Rogers, the Dubach community is very organized and proactive in identifying its needs and seeking for help. They have been able to form long lasting community coalitions that use the available resources effectively. For example, both DRABO, a civic organization, and Dubach Revitalization Coalition, a faith based organization in Dubach have worked together in restoring the beauty and identity of the city and developing some recreational facilities.

Dubach High School

Because reaching youth is such a key part of this project, representatives from the school board and the Dubach High School participated in the needs assessment from the beginning. They identified obesity as a concern among the youth and suggested the after-school program as a solution. The role of the school system in Dubach will be to (1) provide access to the children in the schools for educational, health screening, and outreach activities; (2) disseminate information to the families through school networks; (3) provide facilities both outdoor and indoors for the after school program and the summer sport camps.
