 CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate)

CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocate) are trained volunteers appointed to work with attorneys to speak for abused and neglected children in court and follow their care through the court system. The 3rd Judicial Court covers cases in Lincoln and Union Parishes involving FINS (Families in Need of Services) and Child Abuse cases.

 

Roles of CASA Volunteers:

  • To serve as a fact-finder for the judge by thoroughly researching the background of each assigned case.
  • To speak for the child in the courtroom, representing the child's best interests.
  • To continue as a "watchdog" for the child during the life of the case, ensuring that it is brought to a swift and appropriate conclusion.
