Website Templates

The 8 templates on this page were specifically developed for the use of towns and non-profits that need a website, but that have limited resources to hire someone to design one.  We have designed the templates to be easy to modify and maintain and have provided information about how to change them.  As you can see from examples of the finished websites, changes in color and pictures can make a big difference in the final appearance of a website. For your reference, we have created a guide that walks you through customizing a template for your town or non-profit, and adding the content to it: Customizing a Template for Your Town or Non-Profit Guide.  The descriptions of the templates might contain some terms that you are not familiar with. Please visit our glossary of Internet terms for explanations.

The templates will download as .zip files and when the .zip file is opened, the site will be complete and all links should work.  If you do not already have software installed to open zip files, click on the graphic below to download a free zip file reader program from PKZIP.

3 Tips for success with your website:

  • Update and add new content to your website frequently particularly the first page.
  • At a minimum, make sure that the information on your website is current and accurate.  If having adequate staff to maintain the website is an issue, limit the information on your site to information that you can keep updated and that is the most important.
  • Do not have a very out of date calendar of events prominently displayed on your site.

Featured Examples:

Non-Profit #1
An entirely CSS based design for a non-profit organization. It is oriented towards an arts site or a museum. It provides a placeholder for two graphics on the main page.  We used this site as the basis for our website www.latech.edu/tech/rural
North Central Louisiana Arts Council, Ruston

Ford Museum, Homer

Andrew Higgins, Assistant Professor LA Tech
Non-Profit #2
A text-based design which is very functional and, at the same time, easy to update and modify.
Community Coordinating Council, Ruston
Community Site #1
CSS and tables based 2-3 column design that will automatically adjust to fit most computer screens. The calendar of events is on the front page but could easily be moved elsewhere.
Choudrant, LA
Community Site #2
A CSS based design that maintains a consistent appearance in the latest browsers while still supporting text-based readers.
Gibsland, LA

Marion, LA
Community Site #3
A tables-based design.  The only template we offer with the menu on the right-hand side.  Simple design, but can be effective with good choice of colors and added graphics
Bernice, LA
Community Site #4
A tables-based design with a layout that features a single picture on the left of every page.
Farmerville, LA
Community Site #5
The left navigation has a tree-like format that links to nearly all the pages. Adding new links to the left navigation, however, will become more involved unless page templates are used.
Arcadia, LA

Community Site #6
A standard design based on tables for layout and CSS for the color scheme. This design will work in most browsers.
