Dr. Janie Humphries, professor of human ecology, has been chosen by State Rep. Hollis Downs to be part of a group which will attend the National Symposium on Early Childhood Science and Policy June 26-27 at Harvard University. Representatives from 14 states will attend the symposium, which will allow policymakers and private sector leaders to design and implement policies to help children and their families.

Elizabeth B. Christian and Judith P. Roberts will present a paper “The Framing of Jena Six: A Textual Analysis of Lynching and Racism in 21st Century American Media” as part of an American Studies panel discussion at the Mid-Atlantic Popular /American Culture Association conference in Niagara Falls, Ontario, Oct. 30-Nov. 1, 2008. Christian is an assistant professor of journalism, and Roberts is senior writing associate.

Marie Bukowski, Jay Gould and Joey Slaughter, professors in the School of Art, are three of seven artists from this region included in the Louisiana Seven exhibition at the Masur Museum. The exhibition will run from June 8 to July 3 with an opening reception on June 7 from 6-8 p.m.
