Tech’s men’s golf team had a strong performance in the
opening day of the Memphis Intercollegiate at the Colonial Country Club in Memphis,
but struggled on the second day, finishing tied for 12th out of an 18 team field.
Leading the team in the tournament was sophomore Corey
Bartlett, who shot a 220 to finish tied for 17th
overall. He was just five shots out of the top three.
Senior Trey McNeill was four strokes back in a tie for
38th, while freshman Matthew Harvey tied for 43rd with a score of 225.
The remaining Tech golfers were Michael Birtel with a 231 score to finish 69th, and junior Chad
Bailey who came in 92nd place with a score of 244.
The University of Louisville ran away with the team title
by shooting an overall score of 857, beating second place school Texas
Christian University by 11 strokes.
The University of Wisconsin finished
third with a team score 876.
Franklin Corpening of TCU won
the individual title with a three round total of 212, besting Tyler Hitchcock
of the University of South
Florida by one stroke.
There were five golfers tied for third with 215.
Tech’s golf team will return to action again when they
host the Squire Creek Intercollegiate Classic on Monday and Tuesday at the
Squire Creek Country Club in Choudrant.
