Music, friends and coffee were all stirred around at the
Wesley Foundation Oct. 7.
The bands Stellamaris and The
Upstairs Divine rocked out the Stir at the Wesley.
Laura Rankin and Chad Brooks, both interns at the Wesley,
said they chose both of the bands to play at the Stir.
“Both of the bands were great,” Rankin said. “Along with
the bands, we had coffee, sweets and fruits.”
About 170 people attended the concert at The Stir, Rankin
said.
“We had a good number of students,” Rankin said. “The
students who came were not the typical Wesley crowd. Some of the people came drove in from Shreveport and Monroe to see both of the
bands play.”
Among the crowd gathered with a group of friends was
Clara Sartain, a sophomore studio art major.
“I try to come to the Stir every time they have it,” Sartain said. “I really just enjoy coming and hanging out
with people and getting to know new people. It is a good way to meet new
friends and get involved in the Wesley.”
Sartain said she likes each
band’s music.
“The music of each band is simply phenomenal, and I love
getting to watch them,” Sartain said. “They improve
and add new things each time I see them and that just makes me look forward to
the next time they play.”
Austin Howe, drummer for The Upstairs Divine and a
sophomore basic and career studies major, said he enjoyed playing at the
Wesley.
“We love playing at the Wesley, mainly because Jessica
Foreman, [also an intern at the Wesley], cooks the best food in the world and
the atmosphere is very intimate,” Howe said. “The good ole folks at the Wesley
also are always wonderful hosts and don’t care how loud the music is.”
Howe said The Upstairs Divine has a unique sound.
“We sound kind of like Radiohead
and Elton John at a dinner party with Sigur Ros, and Ben Folds is the chef for the evening,” Howe said.
“It’s been a slow evolution, but mainly we had a lot of similar tastes in music
and decided to make some music of our own.”
