The Bulldogs will be coming home to a full week of
homecoming activities planned by the Student Government Association.
“All of the homecoming events celebrate Tech,” Lindsay Mencacci, president of SGA and a senior biology major,
said. “It is homecoming; it’s a chance for alumni to come back to Tech.
“For students it’s a chance to celebrate their university
that they truly love.”
Mencacci said homecoming is a
celebration of the university.
“Homecoming should give students a sense of pride for
their university,” Mencacci said.
“Homecoming is a great way to connect with other
organizations through all these events.”
Mencacci said the organizations
have a wide variety of events planned.
“We get a lot of different areas around campus to
contribute,” Mencacci said. “On Sunday we go out into
the community and paint the town. Students go to local businesses in the
downtown area of Ruston and paint spirit events on their windows or spirited
slogans cheering on Tech.”
Mencacci said the biggest event
will probably be the unity step show on Monday at 7 p.m.
“The step show gives all the organizations a chance to
get together and bond,” Mencacci said. “A lot of the
organizations put a lot into the step show and make a big deal about it. The
step show is usually a successful event.”
Mencacci said all of the
homecoming events are free for students, including the parade next Thursday at
6 p.m.
“The homecoming parade is a fun event for different
organizations to show their school spirit,” Mencacci
said. “Currently we have 22 organizations participating in the parade. Floats
will be judged before the parade.”
Clark Kent, a senior professional aviation major and a
member of the homecoming court, said he is excited to be in the parade.
“I would like to see the students show a strong amount of
school spirit,” Kent said. “I would like to see a strong turnout with spirit,
not just with number of students.”
Kent said he hopes all the participating organizations
will show their support for Tech and for all of the homecoming events.
“I would like to see organizations become actively
involved in homecoming and have pride,” Kent said. “Homecoming is Sunday
through Saturday, not just the football game on Saturday afternoon.”
