The Silver Wings attended a regional convention in
Robert Endler, a senior
sociology and accounting major, was awarded Region Executive Officer; Jennifer
Bailey, a junior English major, received Vice Region Officer; and Holley
Talley, a sophomore political science major, received Region Parliamentarian.
Silver Wings is a national co-ed, civil service
organization affiliated with the U.S. Air Force.
A person does not have to be a cadet to be a Silver Wing.
“Each position is held for a year, and we take office in
April of 2006 at the National Conclave in Orlando, Fla., which should be fun,” Endler, who is now chartering vice president, said.
The Region Executive Officer acts as a voting member of
the Executive Board of Directors and attends all meetings of the Board,
coordinates the Region Awards Program and helps coordinate all activities for
the Silver Wings Chapter in his or her region, which includes Louisiana, Texas,
Oklahoma and Arkansas.
“I also have to attend an executive board meeting in
Washington, D.C., in September,” Endler said.
The Vice Region Officer is next in line under the Region
Executive Officer.
“This year is going to be great, I can feel it in my
bones,” Bailey said.
Talley, who is the president of the charter at Tech, said
she is very excited about her position and the upcoming year.
“I am ready to experience and learn new, interesting
things and meet new people,” Talley said.
The Region Parliamentarian keeps order in the meetings
and serves as runner for the National Parliamentarian during the National
Conclave.
The Region Parliamentarian also assists the National
Parliamentarian with editing and distributing resolutions during the National
Conclave and assists the Region Executive Officer in producing the minutes of
the Area/Region Conclave by providing original resolutions with amendments.
Among those who received other awards was Lam Hoang, a
cadet and senior biology major, who received the Outstanding Arnold Air Society
Award, which is the brother organization to the Silver Wings.
“I am very honored to have been
nominated and to especially have won the award,” Hoang said.
Also honored was Col. Tom Garza of the U.S. Air Force and
adviser of the Silver Wings. He received an award for Outstanding Charter
Advisor from his students.
Garza said, “I was surprised, because I did not even know
that they had nominated me, but I feel very proud and honored.”
Gen. Emmett O’Donnell was also awarded a national
charter.
