On-campus residents now get to see how some Tech students
become “celebrities” by decorating and arranging their rooms and apartments.
TechTV has a smaller, more
local version of the television program “MTV Cribs,” a show that takes viewers
inside celebrity homes. “TechTV Cribs” shows students
on campus the lives of other on-campus residents.
“We prepared [for being on TechTV
‘Cribs’] by discussing what we would say and cleaning the room,” Allison Tohme, a Pearce Residence Hall occupant and a freshman
biology major, said.
Tohme said she was able to get
on the show because she and her roommate knew someone working on TechTV and feels the show has made her more known on
campus.
Tohme said she mainly remembers
the amount of people who would stop them and ask if they were on the show.
“I mostly liked when people would recognize me from the
show,” Tohme said.
“More people
stopped us than I thought would.”
Another episode of the show featured residents of
University Park.
“My friend Christy Pitre, who
works on TechTV, called me up to see if I wanted to
be on the show,” Chai Stepteau,
a University Park Apartments resident and a senior graphic design major, said.
Stepteau said she and her
roommates began preparing for the show once they accepted the offer to be
participants.
“We cleaned the apartment from top to bottom,” Stepteau said. “We just had a ton of fun with it.”
After the show aired, Stepteau
said she received a lot of attention from the viewers.
“I was on the elevator in Wyly
Tower [of Learning] and some girl asked me, ‘Were you on ‘Cribs?’ I was kind of
excited,” she said.
Chris Lyon, a TechTV staff
member and a freshman graphic design major, said he hosts “Ruston City Limits,”
a show that lets students know what fun activities to do on campus and in
Ruston, and “TechTV Cribs.”
He said “TechTV Cribs” is based
on “MTV Cribs,” but is definitely not as broad with showing lifestyles of
students.
Lyon said Dudley Residence Hall recently had a “Best Dorm
Room Decoration” competition and the top two winners will get to be on the show
by the end of the fall quarter.
“We are trying to do an episode a week,” Lyon said.
“We are working on posting previous episodes of the show
online. This will let students who live off campus see the show.”
He also said it opens the door for students who missed
seeing the episode to be able to see it on their own time.
Lyon said there are two ways to get on the show.
“People can get on the show by knowing someone [on TechTV] or submitting a request online,” Lyon said.
However, he said not everyone who submits a request will
be able to be on the show.
