The Exercise Science and Physical Education organization will hold a campus-wide flag football tournament Oct. 29 and 30. The tournament is called “Halloween Havoc,” and registration deadline is tomorrow, or when the allotted number of teams has been filled.

There is room for 20 men’s teams and 10 woman’s teams. Registration is $10 per team and can be paid in the Memorial Gym office, Room 205.

“Tech’s Intramural Center has over 50 flag football teams this season,” Smiley Reeves, faculty adviser for ESPE and an instructor of health and exercise sciences, said. “We were encouraged by that number to do this fundraiser and we encourage everyone to come out and have a good time.”

ESPE is the professional organization for undergraduate and graduate students majoring in exercise sciences. The organization boasts 62 members this year.

“It’s a good program for our discipline,” Megan Mast, a member of ESPE and senior health and physical education major, said. “I just wish that more students would get involved, so people could see what we do with our major and what we are all about.”

The tournament sponsors encourage the participating teams to wear costumes to stay true to the season.

“Halloween Havoc” will take place on the lower women's softball field, across from the field house.

Michelle Cumming, a freshman speech therapy major who is not involved with ESPE, said she hopes to attend the tournament.

“I would enjoy going to watch because I think it would be fun to see all the costumes,” Cumming said. “It would definitely be something different.”

There will be two different divisions: one for the men and one for women. Trophies will be awarded for first and second place.

Brackets for play times and teams will be posted Monday in Memorial Gymnasium. Team captains are encouraged to go the gym and check the brackets on that day.

“I’m looking forward to the tournament,” Reeves said. “I think it will be a success.”

Registration forms and rule sheets for Halloween Havoc are available in the Memorial Gym office, or call 257-4432 for more details.
