If one can never be too old to celebrate and capture the youthful essence of Halloween, then Tech athletes, coaches and staff proved just that.

At the fourth annual Halloween Carnival, presented by Tech athletes on Oct. 26, children in the community were not the only ones dressed for the occasion.

The carnival was held at J.C. Love Field. Teams set up game booths around the field and gave out candy to sweeten the night.

Wendell Crowe, a Bulldog football player and a junior health and physical education major, said participating in the carnival provides athletes with a change of pace.

"By the athletes dressing up, it shows kids you're never too old to have fun," Crowe said. "It's fun to take a break from our various sports and have fun giving back to the community."

Sandra Kane, an administrative secretary for multiple sports, said not only do the children benefit, but the athletes do as well.

"It puts athletes in touch with the community and provides a safe atmosphere," Kane said.

Stacy Gilbert, assistant athletic director for academics, said the carnival was a success.

"Surprisingly, we had a good turnout, despite the threatening weather conditions," Gilbert said.

"I don't know who enjoys it more -- the kids or the athletes."

Sabra Warner, a Lady Techster softball player and a senior biology major, said, "The annual carnival allows athletes to give back to the community and also allows kids to meet the athletes."
