Discussions about purchasing a fourth golf cart to be utilized by the Tech Police were made during the Student Government Association meeting Tuesday.

"This is for the student escort service that we provide for students," Jennifer Porter, SGA President and a senior marketing major said.

The estimated cost of purchasing a six-seater golf cart is $8,500. $4500 will come from SGA Special Projects Fund and the remaining balance will come from the SGA Loan Fund.

"[Tech Police] have three working golf carts right now which are purchased by the SGA, but one of them is practically not working," Porter said. "They are asking for another one to replace, so that they will still have three."

Some members of the SGA questioned the need to purchase a six-seater golf cart and suggested to look into purchasing a four-seater golf cart instead.

However, Porter said she sees the benefit for Tech Police to have a six-seater golf cart.

"I know there have been times where I would love to jump on but they didn't have anymore room," Porter said. "So this would allow for more room."

Jennifer Robinson, co-chair of camus activities and a sophomore mechanical engineering major, said she has had experiences where she and her friends were not able to fit into a four-seater golf cart.

Robinson said that it is likely that a six-seater golf cart would help save gas as the student escort would be able to ferry more students across campus at one time.
