This item originally appeared in the November 11, 2004 issue of The Tech Talk.W. OK, most of you are probably groaning about it now. Not because you don't like President George W. Bush, but because you're tired of hearing about the presidential election. Honestly, I am too.
The fact is George W. Bush will be our president for the next four years, and there really is no need to complain. But my co-worker leaves me no choice (see column below).
I, Jennifer Reynolds, of sound mind and body, am a Republican. I'm a journalist, and I lean toward the right. Hard for some to believe, eh?
"Sen. John Kerry concedes, and President Bush wins the presidential election." Ah, I couldn't have said it better myself.
If these words would have been altered, Nov. 3, 2004 would have been a frightening day for not only the United States but the entire world.
Four years ago I was 17, still in high school and not sure where I stood on my political views. Now, I'm 21, a senior in college, and I can't understand why I was unsure.
I love President Bush, but being a Republican is more than loving a specific candidate; it's about the views.
How can anyone who is a Christian stand for someone who voted more than 25 times to put our tax dollars to use by paying for abortions?
And that's only the beginning. With Bush serving four more years, I know where my country stands.
On the other hand, if Sen. Kerry was in President Bush's seat, there might have been a difference between the things he told the American people and the actual things he did.
In 20 years Sen. Kerry É um É let's see what did Sen. Kerry actually accomplish in two decades? Absolutely nothing. Unless you call adding a bill which gave someone a visa in 1987 a huge accomplishment for our nation.
Kerry missed 294 of 459 Senatorial votes in 2003. That's 64 percent. Now that should have been a red flag right there. If Kerry didn't care enough for our nation that he couldn't even vote while he was in the Senate, why would he care about our nation now? If he could not do it there, what was he going to do as president?
I am proud to say I have a president who puts the needs of our nation first. For anyone who says we should not be over seas fighting this war, you're wrong. Destroying our Twin Towers and killing thousands was just a good enough reason to defend our country as Pearl Harbor. We have been dealing with terrorists for decades; it is time to step up and defend the red, white and blue.
If we don't, what will make our country different? What will make terrorists stop attacking our homeland? What will tell them that we are not going to stand back while they attempt to tear us down?
I am proud to say I have a president who responds. Just seven days after 9/11, President Bush signed a number of bills which included financial assistance for New York City, anti-terrorism funding and defense funding for our troops.
I could go on and on about this, but who am I trying to convince?
The election has come and gone, and Bush has obviously done an excellent job for our nation. He will get the "four more years" he deserves.
