Discussion of a motion proposed to the Student Government Association last week that, if approved, would contribute $2,000 toward purchasing an automatic handicap accessible door for Hale Hall, was tabled until next quarter due to the detection of other funding possibilities.

Alyse Wells, Association for Disabled Students senator and a sophomore health information management major, said through the research of the Committee on University Accessibility, they discovered the university has an Americans with Disabilities Act Fund.

"We found out the university has an ADA fund, and we want to find out where that money is going and what it is being used for," Wells said.

Wells also said the administration needs to consider using the money in visible ways.

"Our university should cater to all students," Wells said. "The university should want to put doors on buildings and not feel like it is a burden."

Damein Delrie, president of ASD and a sophomore computer information systems major, said the organization appears to be in a stalemate with the administration.

"They've been unresponsive," Delrie said. "They have basically just said that it's not required by law so it's not their responsibility to make the improvements."

Delrie said the administration is correct in saying it is not required to provide the convenience, but also said the university "should want to [provide the door] in order to make Tech look even better in the state's eyes, in the eyes of other universities and in the eyes of students they are trying to recruit."

Lindsey Mencacci, SGA vice president and a junior biology major, said the improvements will make Tech more attractive to prospective students.

Mencacci said, "If we are making all the changes and better improving our facilities for disabled students, that will just add to the list of benefits Tech provides to its students."
