Symphony to hold holiday concert

Symphony to hold holiday concert

The Shreveport Symphony Orchestra will present a holiday concert at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 17 at Shreveport’s Civic Theatre, located at 400 Clyde Fant Parkway.

Admission for single tickets ranges from $10-$36, with a special rate of $5 for students with a valid student ID.

The Civic Theatre box office opens at noon on concert days.

Under the direction of music director designate Michael Butterman, concert goers will experience a holiday spectacular of seasonal favorites including “O Come, All Ye Faithful” and “Let There Be Peace on Earth.”

Local soprano player Margaret Williams Jones will be the featured soloist.

Also featured will be the Red River Children’s Choir, the Shreveport Chamber Singers and the Shreveport Opera Chorus.

Graduates must register by Dec. 16

Deadline for winter graduation registration is Dec. 16.

Students who meet the criteria to graduate must fill out the application for graduation which is available in the Registrar’s Office, Room 207 on the second floor of Keeny Hall.

For the student’s convenience, the application is also downloadable from the Tech Registrar’s Web site at http://www.latech.edu/registrar.

Graduating students can either turn in the application to the Registrar’s Office or send it  in by mail or fax.

Graduates are encouraged to register on time. If students fail to meet the deadline, they will be required to get their dean’s approval in writing to be added to the list. If no written approval is provided, students will be forced to reapply next quarter.

IFM conference set for next week

This year’s Louisiana Materials and Emerging Technologies Conference will be held Monday and Tuesday in the Institute for Micromanufacturing Building.

The conference brings together experts from universities, industry and government agencies.

It will also facilitate collaboration in the areas of materials and emerging technologies, such as novel materials, processes, devices and systems related to microtechnology and nanotechnology, biotechnology, information technology and their applications.

Students must register to attend the conference.

Exhibit to feature professors soon

The School of Art will host exhibits from Tim Hayes, a professor of architecture, and Hamlett Dobbins, an instructor of art at Rhodes College-Memphis.

The exhibits will open Jan. 10 and will show through Feb. 9.

Hayes’ retrospective works will be featured in the Main Gallery, located in the Visual Arts Center, and Dobbins’s “Early Morning Paintings” is showing in the adjacent gallery, the E.J. Bellocq Gallery.

Admission is free to all students and no ID is necessary.

Gallery hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on weekdays.

Wesley Foundation to host free formal

A winter formal, hosted by the Wesley Foundation, will be held 8 p.m. Dec. 16.

The formal will take place at the Wesley Foundation, which is located on the corner of College Street and Louisiana Street.

The event is free and open to any Tech students. The only requirement is formal attire.

Any students interested in attending can come alone or bring a date.

Residents must sign up for housing

Students planning to stay in the residence halls any time over the Christmas break need to sign up by 5 p.m. Dec. 16 at the Housing Office in Harris Hall, located on Hergot Avenue.

The residence halls will be closed from 7 p.m. Dec. 20 until Jan. 3.

Residents can schedule days to stay at any point over the break, but they must sign up in the Housing Office.

Residents should contact respective coordinators to sign up.

Housing is free over break.
