Opera Workshop to run nightly with Stephen Sondheim's work

The School of Performing Arts will present its Opera Workshop "Stephen Sondheim, the Man, the Words and the Music" with guest Broadway performer Pamela Myers for their annual performance.

The performance will run nightly until Saturday in the Stone Theatre located in Howard Auditorium, Center for the Performing Arts and will begin at 7:30 p.m.

Tickets are on sale at the box office, located in the lobby of Howard Auditorium. Hours for the box office are from 1:30 to 4:45 p.m. Monday through Friday.

Admission to the performance is $8 for adults, $4 for students with valid Tech ID and $7 for children.

LTCA to host musical quartet Jan. 20 in Howard Auditorium

The Louisiana Tech Concert Association will host Pastiche from 7:30 to 9:30 p.m. Jan. 20 in Howard Auditorium, Center for the Performing Arts.

Pastiche is a quartet made up of four virtuoso artists who play clarinet, trumpet, piano and percussion.

Reservations are available.

Tickets are $15 for the general public, $7 for children, and $3 with students with a Tech I.D.

Only one ticket may be purchased per Tech I.D.

Union Board to show free movie in Tolliver Hall Tuesday

Union Board will show the movie "Collateral" at 7 p.m. Tuesday in Tolliver Hall.

All students with a valid Tech ID are invited.

Students who live on campus may also watch the movie on Channel 4.

"Collateral" stars Tom Cruise and Jamie Foxx.

The movie centers around a cab driver who is forced to drive a contract killer around the streets of Los Angeles, Calif. in order to stay alive.

National artists to be on display in Tech Art Gallery until Feb. 10

The Visual Arts Center hosts the art displays of two nationally recognized artists through Feb. 10.

New York artist Rhonda Schaller, known for her abstract art, will exhibit artwork in the Tech Art Gallery.

Florida artist Andrew Decaen, known for his metaphorical and symbolic art, will exhibit artwork at the adjacent E.J. Bellocq Gallery.

The galleries are located inside the Visual Arts Center, south of the Natatorium.

Admission is free for everyone, and both galleries are open weekdays from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.

International history honor society to recruit new members

Lambda Rho Chapter of Phi Alpha Theta is recruiting new members.

Phi Alpha Theta is an international honor society of students and professors who have been elected to membership in the study of history.

The organization's mission is to bring students, teachers and writers of history together intellectually and socially.

Students must have a minimum of twelve hours in history courses, a 2.75 cumulative GPA and a 3.01 overall GPA in history courses to qualify for membership.

Panhellenic Winter Recruitment open to all female students

Louisiana Tech University Panhellenic Council is sponsoring Winter Recruitment 2005, which is open to all female students who are interested in the Greek system.

Sorority membership offers leadership opportunities, scholarships, social activities, community service activities and life-long sisterhood.

Alpha Chi Omega, Kappa Delta, Phi Mu and Sigma Kappa.

Recruitment is Jan. 20-22 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. on Thursday and Friday and all day on Saturday.

Applications are available in Keeny Hall, Room 319.

Tech to close for Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday, cafeteria open

Tech will be closed Monday for the Martin Luther King, Jr., holiday. No classes will be held that day.

Classes will resume at 8 a.m. Tuesday.

Residence halls will remain open for the break.

The cafeteria will be open Saturday and Sunday from 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Cafeteria hours Monday will be 10:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Regular hours will resume Tuesday.

Newly donated stamp collection to be housed in Prescott Library

A mint-condition stamp collection has been donated to Tech.

The valuable U.N. stamp collection was donated by Mrs. Ursula Panula, a widower of Dr. Gustaf H. Panula, who was a chemical engineering professor at Tech starting in 1954.

The 39 stamps were collected from 1951-1957.

The donated stamps will be kept in the department of special collections, manuscripts and archives, located on the fourth floor of Prescott Memorial Library.

The 4th floor of the library is open Monday-Friday 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
