New parking lots will be added to the campus this quarter.

Dr. Jim King, vice president for student affairs, said one of the new lots, located by the Lincoln Parish Library on Alabama Avenue, will be able to hold 150 vehicles.

This lot will be available for parking within a few weeks.

"Obviously we are concerned with the level of satisfaction of students, so this is why we decided to add more parking," King said.

"We wanted more lots and we wanted them in good locations."

An additional parking lot that will include 50 more parking spaces will be located by the East Everett Street Bridge and will be finished later in the quarter.

Many students around campus have complained about the lack of parking.

Thad Mancil, a sophomore architecture major, said at the beginning of the school year, parking was tight, but it has tapered off now.

Mancil, who usually parks by Davison Hall, said he is glad there will be more parking available.

"The new lot will be the shortest walk to Wyly Tower for me," he said.

Justin Lambert, a sophomore mechanical engineering major who lives on campus, said he thinks the university needs all the parking lots it can get.

"Hopefully, by creating more places for commuters to park, it will free up some spots in the dorm lots as well," Lambert said.

"I don't drive around campus much, because the parking is so terrible."

Lambert also said he has friends who complain about driving to school.

"I have a lot of friends who do drive to school," Lambert said.

"I think it will make their lives a lot easier if they don't have to worry so much about getting here early just to get a parking place."

Jake Johnson, a sophomore basic and career studies major, said he is happy there will be more parking on the north side of campus.

"I think it's good that there is a parking lot on that side of campus because students don't have to hike all the way to class from the opposite end," Johnson said.

Johnson also said it is annoying to have to park so far away from campus, and hopefully with the additional parking lots more spaces will be available.
