Tech 2003 alumna Tiffany Walker, said when she was in high school, her career aspiration was to be a fashion designer. Her dream is now a reality.
With a degree in merchandising, Walker now has her own clothing line called T-Shemise based out of Shreveport, and her designs are being sold on the Internet at http://www.t-shemise.com to fashion enthusiasts across the country.
Walker is currently searching for models for her spring collection fashion show "Change Clothes," which will be held at 7 p.m. April 24 at the Shreveport Civic Center.
"I want girls and guys of all races to try out because I want to capture the reality of things and be realistic about it," she said.
Walker describes the line as "urban-glam."
Walker said her greatest inspiration was her father Willie Walker, an artist, who died 10 years ago.
"He was a mastermind when it came to art," she said. "I feel like I'm living his legacy."
In high school, Walker developed the name of her fashion line by putting her first initial with her middle name and began designing clothes.
Using her creativity and outlines from her favorite outfits, Walker even designed her own prom dress, which was a pink, asymmetrical piece.
Lana Martin, her friend since high school and a senior computer information systems major, said Walker always had a flair for putting together one-of-a-kind outfits.
"Tiffany was very original in high school and would put different things together, and everything looked cute," Martin said.
"We always knew her desire was to design clothes, and she wanted her name out there. I think she's well on her way."
In college, Walker was president of the Elite Modeling Troupe and worked with Roslyn Caesar, the adviser of the Troupe.
"We had a very close working relationship," Caesar said. "I was like a big sister to her, so I am very proud."
Walker's current line includes ready-to-wear basics that are mass-produced and a couture collection, which are custom-made pieces.
"I love the idea of taking old things and redesigning them," she said.
Now she is ready to present her designs to the public.
The model search will be held from 5 to 8 p.m. Feb. 11 and 12 in the Eaves Room of the Shreve Memorial Library, located at 424 Texas St. in Shreveport.
For more information or to receive an application, contact Walker at 687-0017 or 245-2026. The deadline for the application is Tuesday.
