It’s the Battle of the Sexes

It’s the Battle of the Sexes. Girls know what girls want; boys know what boys want. But it is usually never communicated to the opposite sex.

So after heartaches, conversations and general girl talk, I have compiled a list of a things that all guys could benefit from.

~Don’t tell a girl she is high maintenance even if you are joking. For any girl who is not high maintenance, she probably tries to not be that way. Jokes are supposed to be funny and she won’t think this is.

~Fight with us. Now I am not saying we like to fight, but if something is an issue, girls would rather talk about it than have the guy roll over and let them win. I am not always right. Let know me know I’m wrong. Keyword: Gently.

~Call if you say you are going to call. If you aren’t going to call then don’t say you will. You may think she needs to hear that you will call but if you aren’t planning on it, it will only make her feel stupid for waiting for her phone to ring.

~If a girl says she knows about something like sports or poker, don’t try to explain everything to her. We will ask if we don’t know something and WANT to know it. She is probably trying to show that she cares about things you like, too.

~We know you act a little different in front of your friends, but don’t treat us worse because of it. We don’t want you to look whipped either. Just like a good boyfriend.

~Dance. Whether it’s a wedding, formal or in the parking lot. Many girls like to dance and would hate to have to sit against the wall or miss her favorite song because you feel like you will look stupid. Trust me, if you make an effort, you won’t look stupid.

~Opening doors is tricky. If you don’t plan on at least offering to open our door long after the first date, don’t start because stopping will only make us realize the honeymoon’s over.

~The best gifts usually just say that you pay attention to her. Seriously, I’d pick a burned CD with all my favorite songs over a necklace that screams “I picked the first thing I saw.”

~Button down shirts with the sleeves rolled up. It could be plain white and you will still look amazing.

~Listening will get you further than chocolates. Top that off with asking questions about her and I think we have a keeper.

These aren’t necessarily the most important things to know about girls but I don’t think you will be able to find those things in a column.

Girls aren’t perfect either. So, guys, next week is your turn. E-mail me what you think girls should know about y’all.
