Fresh off their strong Western Athletic Conference Tournament showing in February, the Tech indoor track and field team went to Fayetteville, Ark., on March 10-11 to compete in the NCAA Championships, where three Tech athletes shined in their appearances at the University of Arkansas’s Randal Tyson Track Center.

Nina Gilbert, a junior from Houston, Doneshia Spivey, a senior from Palm Bay, Florida, and Latonia Wilson, a junior from Amite, La., each qualified for events at the two day meet.

Gilbert competed in the 400 Meter Dash, posting a time of 54.99 seconds in her preliminary heat; just missing the finals in the event.

Wilson competed in the 200 Meter Dash; also narrowly missing the finals with a heat time of 24.00 seconds.

Spivey participated in the Long Jump competition.

In her three attempts, she posted a best jump of 5.98 meters leaving, her short of the qualifying mark needed to reach the finals.

The meet in Fayetteville marked the end of the indoor season, and Tech will now begin their quest for the WAC outdoor title.

The outdoor season opens March 18 in Lafayette at the Louisiana Classic and then continues on March 24 at the LSU Relays in Baton Rouge.
