The United Campus Ministries is hosting “God’s Thing in the Spring,” an outdoor concert event from noon to 9 p.m., March 30, at Centennial Plaza.

The UCM is Christian organization compiled of five different campus ministries here at Tech, which include Baptist Collegiate Ministry, Chi Alpha Christian Fellowship, the Wesley Foundation, Association of Baptist Students, and the Association of Catholic Tech Students.

Tim Raney, a senior accounting major and member of the UCM, said this event is the campus ministries’ way of extending greetings to the entire campus.

“The UCM has only been around for two years now, and we knew it wouldn’t be easy for one ministry to put this together by itself,” Raney said.

“We’ve been planning this event since the beginning of the quarter.

“We just wanted to put this together as a way of letting people know who we are and what we are about and just to let people have a good time,” Raney said.

Linda Osborne, director of the Baptist Collegiate Ministry, said the event will include different bands, including local band The Upstairs Divine and Skyline Blue from Shreveport which will play at 7 p.m.

Along with the musical guests, two guest speakers, Barry Rogers, a senior speech major and former president of the BCM and Zach Kissinger, a junior business management major and member of Chi Alpha, will also speak to all who attend.

“This is the first time we’ve put something together this big,” Raney said.

“We’re very happy that all the campus ministries are playing a role in it.”

Admission to the event is free and it will also include free food from 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m.

Giselle Boertjens, president of the UCM and a senior animal science major, said “God’s Thing in the Spring” is not just for people of the Christian faith.

“I’m hoping that no one will be discouraged by the name of the event,” Boertjens said.

“Even though this event is about honoring Jesus Christ, I want everyone to come out and celebrate life. It’s going to be a great time to bring unity to the campus for Christians and non-Christians alike. We’re doing this just to show we can all come together and have a great time.”
