Tech’s tennis team fell 6-1 against the University of
Arkansas-Little Rock on Friday in Little Rock, with
the Lady Trojans claiming five of the six singles matches, as well as sweeping
doubles play.
In the No. One singles
competition, UALR’s Jenna Hirdle
defeated Tech freshman Caroline Tran 3-0 after Tran was forced to withdraw from
the match early.
Lady Trojan Bindya Parekh also defeated Tech’s Noel Camell,
a freshman, 6-0, 6-0 in the No. Two match, while Techster Monica Kelly fell 7-5, 6-3 to Ellie Vicary in the No. Three spot.
The Techsters also suffered
losses in the No.’s Five and Six positions, with
Alexandra Gaspar falling 6-0, 6-2, and Ada Makowska losing 6-4, 6-0.
The bright spot for Tech came in the No. Four match, as
senior Techster Avril
Martinez defeated UALR’s Hollie
Robinson 6-1, 6-4 to
grab the lone Tech point in the match.
In doubles play, the duo of Parekh
and Negrete defeated Martinez and Gaspar
8-0, while Laetitia Bourgeon and Robinson defeated Kelly
and Makowska 8-2.
Outi Jarvinen
and Gomez defeated Tran and Camell 8-0 in the third
doubles competition to complete the sweep for the Lady Trojans.
The Techsters will be back in
action this week against Harding University on Thursday, Centenary College on
Friday and Prairie View A & M on Saturday. All
these matches will be in Ruston.
