Shoot Me, Shoot Me,
Heaven
Brash Music
Grade: A-
Need some fresh music to satisfy those indie-rock taste buds?
Then order Taylor Hollingsworth's six-track Extended Play, "Shoot Me, Shoot Me, Heaven." The Birmingham, Ala. native just released his first EP on Brash Music records in February, and the EP does not disappoint.
The songs have a The-Beatles-meets-Tom-Petty-meets-Oasis feel to it, and it even ventures into the rock pop category.
Hollingsworth does lend some killer guitar solos to the EP, and his raspy, whiny voice is just too sexy to pass up.
While some of the songs on the EP sound the same, a closer listen will reveal that each one is quite unique.
The first song, "You Just Wanna," lets the listeners know they are in for a treat. It kicks off EP out on a fun start, and it even has a bit of pop thrown into it.
The title track is certainly one of the best songs off the record. Its repetition of lyrics and guitar riffs makes the song upbeat and enjoyable to listen to.
The following song, "You're lost," is slower-paced. It sounds depressing, but its chorus "You're lost and can't be found/No time to turn around/Know where you go will set you free" is so catchy that it will get stuck in the listener's head for days.
On the flip side, "Come Along" just brings the EP down. Hollingsworth's voice is so completely whiny that it sounds like a child complaining about not getting a toy at Wal-Mart.
While Hollingsworth does not have an official full-length album out, he is sure to be on the list of up-and-comers with his electrifying guitar skills and seductive vocals.
