Spring event applications due for annual community cleanup

The Big Event, a one-day service project sponsored by the Student Government Association, will be held at 9 a.m. April 24.

The Big Event gives students a chance to show their gratitude to the Ruston community by doing odd jobs, like planting flowers, painting and weeding, around town. Volunteers will receive T-shirts for participating.

Applications are available in the SGA office, located in Room 211-212 in Tolliver Hall. They are due before 5 p.m. April 2. Organizations or individual students can sign up to participate.

Union Board to admit recruits; deadline quickly approaches

It is not too late. Union Board applications for new members are still available at the Tolliver information desk, located in Tolliver Hall.

Students can also apply online at http://unionboard.com.

Applications are due by noon Friday in the Union Board office, located in Tolliver Hall, Room 214.

The Union Board staff recommends adding a picture to the application for them to place a name with a face, but it is not required.

Applicants will receive interviews based on applications. Therefore, it is important to fill the application out fully and correctly.

Music group to celebrate debut, perform at Mexican restaurant

Ingram Hill, a Memphis pop-rock quartet, will celebrate its national major label debut in Ruston. The group will perform at 7 p.m. April 2 at Cactus Jack's Cantina and Grill, located at 2803 S. Service Road. Admission is $8.

Formed in the summer of 2000, Ingram Hill consists of Justin Moore (vocal/guitar), Phil Bogard (guitar), Shea Sowell (bass/vocals) and Matt Chambless (drums).

Their 2002 effort "Until Now" rocketed to No. 5 on the Memphis retail charts and sold more than 10,000 copies.

Center to hold recruitment fair; companies to accept resumes

Allied Health Recruitment Day, sponsored by the Career Center, will be held from 9 a.m. to noon today in the Student Center, Main Floor.

All classifications are welcome to attend. Students who are seeking job opportunities in the majors of speech pathology, child life, health and exercise sciences, psychology, dietetics, medical technology, health information management and nursing should come with at least 25 resume copies to distribute to companies.

The companies that will be represented include Lincoln General Hospital, Rust House Assisted Living and LSU Health Sciences Center, Department of Rehabilitation Sciences.

The dress code for this event is business attire. Students must be registered with the Career Center, located in Keeny Hall, Room 337. There is no deadline for registration.

Seminars offer job preparation for business etiquette, skills

The Career Center will sponsor several seminars during spring quarter to assist students in preparing for a professional job.

The seminars will cover how to write a resume and interview successfully, as well as business dining etiquette. The Orientation Seminars are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday and 3 p.m. Monday. The Resume Seminar will be held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, and the Successful Interview Seminar will be held at 3 p.m. April 1.

The seminars will be held in Keeny Hall, Room 337. All seminars, with the exception of the Business Dining Etiquette Seminar, are free to students. Students must pre-register for this seminar and pay $12 to cover cost of food. The Business Dining Seminar will be held at 6 p.m. both Tuesday and April 26 in the President's Dining Room, located in the cafeteria.

Classes in alternative medicine begin tonight, last through May

Evening classes offered by the Division of Continuing Education will begin tonight and continue throughout the quarter. Classes include Aromatherapy, scheduled today; Introduction to Acupressure, scheduled for April 1; Chi Healing, scheduled for April 15; and Sports Massage Techniques, scheduled for May 6.

Classes will be held from 5:30 p.m. until 8:30 p.m. in Davison Hall. Each class costs $35, and students can sign up for classes in the Office of the Registrar, located in Keeny Hall, Room 207.

Licensed Massage Therapist Kimberli Ridgeway will teach the classes. Ridgeway has taught her techniques at area technical colleges and is a National Board Certified massage therapist.

Staff seeks additional editors for upcoming Lagniappe issue

The Lagniappe staff is in need of section editors for the 2005 yearbook. Open staff positions include Sports, Organizations and People editors. Staff members will attend a workshop in the fall to learn about the makings of a yearbook and to develop the theme and ideas for next year's book.

Editors are in charge of developing ideas, assigning and editing stories and creating page layouts. All positions are paid.

Students from all majors are welcome and encouraged to apply.

Organization concludes week with private meeting Friday

Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority sponsored Undergraduate Week with a series of events that began Saturday and will continue through Friday.

A majority of the week's events will be held on campus so that the student body will be able to attend.

The AKAs will hold a relationship forum at 6 p.m. today in the Multicultural Lounge, located in Tolliver Hall.

Undergraduate Week will conclude Friday with sisterly relations, which is a private meeting to discuss sorority activities, held for only the sorority members.

All the other events are open to the public.
